But before we get into this “The Power of Now” Review, I want to share a few personal observations about the experience of living in the now and being present. Being present is probably one of the most alien ideas in the Western world. Especially in North America, there is so much focus on being goal oriented and productive that many of us are less productive that we’re capable of being and don’t even realize it. We extend too much of our energy thinking about what might happen in the future, whether it’s good or bad, and many of us are operating at only a sliver of our potential because we are not ourselves fully to the moment.

That said, if you’re someone who has been raised in the environment of being focused on either the past or present, the message in this book is going to challenge the way that you think…and in a good way. But it’s important to be prepared to learn some of the things that become habits so that you can receive the full benefit of living in the now.

“The Power of Now” Review: The Basic Message

The basic message of The Power of Now is that the strongest force of influence, passion, motivation and happiness that you possess is the ability to give yourself fully to the present moment. If you learn to do this properly, you’ll have no reason to worry about the future or dwell on the past. First I recommend that you go in with a specific objective is to how you are going to use this material. There needs to be a specific area of your life that you’re ready to make a change in right away so we can start putting these principles into practice. I say this because the concept of living in the now is so foreign to the majority of people that you run the risk of reading it and forgetting it right away.

But if you use this information to take action in changing a part of your life, you’ll be much more likely to retain it and internalize it as a part of your personality, your thought process and your character.

As a conclusion to my “The Power of Now” Review, I would normally be telling you what the downsides are, but honestly there don’t seem to be any when it comes to this book or its message. The first thing that you need to do when it comes to finding your purpose is let go of all the noise and static which is keeping you from “hearing” the still small voice within your heart. Sure, there are many valuable things you can learn from outside sources and other people’s input. But when it comes to you finding your life purpose, the person you need to have a consultation with is always available, and that person is you. The problem is that we are all bombarded with so many opinions, solicitations and ideas about how things should be that we’ve desensitized ourselves to the voice of our heart.

Your own personal and spiritual growth is your responsibility and no one else’s, regardless of how many people will try to tell you what you should or should not do with your life. Once you have filtered these things out by cultivating “selective ignorance”, you can start focusing on the skill which will help you in finding your purpose.

Start Listening to Yourself

The most important thing you can do to start building self-awareness and find out what YOUR specific purpose is here on earth is to start listening to yourself, and the best way to accomplish this is by keeping a daily journal of your thoughts. The great inventor Benjamin Franklin once said: “If you’re not to be forgotten when you’re dead and rotten, either do things worth writing about or write things worth reading about.” This saying must have been believed by many other great achievers in history because most of them were prolific writers who kept track of their thoughts and reflections in personal letters and journals.

Writing is a focused exercise for the mind and it helps you to clarify the random thoughts which are going round in your mind driving you crazy for most of the day. Begin to write these thoughts down and write down the answers to questions such as “What’s the one thing that I want people to remember me for?” or “What’s the one thing that I want to accomplish before I die?”. As you ask yourself these questions and develop the skill of understanding your own thought process and listening to the voice of your heart, the answers will become clearer and more specific.

And finally…

Finding Your Life Purpose By Going After It

The great writer Jack London once said: “You can’t wait for inspiration to come to you, you must go after it with a club.” The same is true when it comes to finding your purpose, you have to start feeding your mind with things and seeking out materials which will help you to further understand your own desires. If you want to do something with your life, you can bet that someone else has either done it themselves or at least something similar.

So devote yourself to becoming an avid reader and researcher of the things you’re interested in, and in conjunction with your journaling you’ll eventually succeed finding your life purpose.

Self-Esteem Affirmations: Simple and Effective

Self-esteem affirmations are a great strategy for building self-esteem and for becoming a positive and self-reliant person. This is because positive affirmations have the power to change your habitual thinking patterns and your internal dialogues that shape your self-esteem. So why aren’t more people using this method for building self-esteem? It’s because most people just aren’t aware of how their own positive affirmations can actually be used to get solid results.

Thankfully, there is an easy set of principles which you can use to construct positive affirmations which are simple and effective. This article will give you a simple strategy for creating and using your own self esteem affirmations.

First, Define Your Standards

Before you begin writing your self esteem affirmations, you need to define your standard for building self-esteem. For example, what is your idea of a person who has high self esteem? It can be something like the courage to speak to strangers, to the opposite sex, or the courage to negotiate. Just make sure that you come up with a list of actions that you believe to be typical of a confident person.

Second, The Formula of Positive Affirmations

Your self esteem affirmations need to follow four basic principles: they need to be in the present tense; affirmative in nature (in other words, avoid statements like: not, don’t, won’t, can’t, and no); they must be in the first person; they need to be action driven (using the actions you collected in step one). For example:

“I’m assertive and persuasive in my business negotiations.”

“I approach women and strangers and engage them in conversations.”

“I’m a master at closing sales.”

“I disciplined and self-reliant in following my exercise program.”

Notice that all of these self esteem affirmations have four things in common:

They’re all in the present tense

They’re all affirmative

They’re all in the first person

They all involve a specific action

Once you have your positive affirmations written according to these guidelines, there’s only one thing left to do…

Third, Rehearse Your Affirmations

Using self esteem affirmations is a perpetual process which you must do on a consistent basis. For best results, say your affirmations out loud in the morning and in the evening. This is important because you are actually training your mind, which is no different than training your body: both have to be done on a consistent basis and if you begin to slack off, your results will start to undo themselves. So practice your self esteem affirmations every day, and if you get bored with them, just write new ones. Make it a lifelong commitment, and confidence will become a natural part of your beliefs and your actions.

Now, notice that each one of these love affirmations has four things in common:

1) They’re all in the present tense

2) They’re all in the first person

3) They all involve the characteristics you’re looking for a date

4) They all involve the characteristics you need to attract them

Now, in case you’re thinking that you are lying to yourself in stating such things, here’s something important to note about how affirmations work: love affirmations, like any other affirmations, work to condition your subconscious mind to believe the things that you are consistently telling it.

Once these beliefs become crystallized, they’ll begin to influence your actions and beliefs will become a reality. This is because of a psychological principle known as cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is the discomfort which a person feels when their beliefs and their actions are not aligned. This discomfort causes a person to change their actions in order to make them consistent with their beliefs.

And that’s accomplished through the final step…

Third, Rehearse Your Positive Affirmations

Once you have your positive love affirmations written, verbally rehearse them in front of the mirror in the morning and in the evening. This is where the magic really starts happening…and it will take about 21 days for things to really pick up momentum. But most important, they are quicker to get back up and reapply themselves when they fail, which helps them to leverage even their failures as learning opportunities.

So the first step towards using the Law of Attraction effectively is having a burning desire and a specific goal, whether it be to manifest financial prosperity (with an exact figure in mind), better health (again, with an exact healthy goal or ideal weight) or any other kind of goal which you can turn into a burning desire.

Second, Lifestyle Design and Planning.

The second step to using the Secret to manifest prosperity, health or romance is to begin building your lifestyle around the object of your desire. This means that you do whatever you can to make it the most prevalent thought in your mind. You can use a vision board, meditation, journaling or spoken affirmations. Use whatever you need to create a vividly imagined experience of you already in possession of the object of your desire. Most important, begin developing a specific plan for how you are going to achieve it and get to work on that plan right away, whether you’re ready or not.

Knowing how to meditate is one of the most important skills you learn for managing stress, building willpower and confidence, and for keeping your body in good physical and emotional health. Believe it or not, this is a sufficient amount of time to become the master provided that you know exactly what steps to follow. This article will provide you with a rock solid plan for learning within just a month how to meditate…

How to Meditate Like a Master Within One Month

Days 1-5

The first five days of the process are going to be spent becoming conscious of the things that you’re thinking about. There is really no objective in this stage but to simply to sit on the ground with your legs crossed and pay attention to whatever thoughts randomly spring into your mind. Do not attempt to concentrate on any one of these thoughts or focus your attention on any one thing. Simply observe and become aware of the random thoughts which are coming into your mind. Don’t analyze them or try to repress them, this is the first stage of developing the skill of meditation.

Days 6-10

During the second five days you’re going to be training your mind and body to get into what’s known as the hypnogic state, which is just between sleeping and dreaming. This is a state which is similar to that used during self hypnosis. To accomplish this, lay down on your back and hold one of your arms at a 90° angle with the rest of your body. This way, just before you start dozing to sleep your arm will fall and awaken you. You’ll also continue to observe your thoughts as they come into your mind just as you did during days 1 to 5. During these five days, or shortly after, you might start experiencing something known as “sleep paralysis” when you wake up from sleeping at night.

Although sleep paralysis can be terrifying, it’s important to remember that this is simply your physical body being still asleep while you are conscious and awake. It will usually pass as you progress through the next stages of meditation…

Days 11-20

During days 11-20 of learning how to meditate, you’re going to work on weeding the random thoughts out of your head. To do this, you simply acknowledge a thought out loud that pops into your head like so:

“I’m thinking about checking my email”

“I’m thinking about watering my lawn”

“I’m thinking about what I’m going to say to my boss at the meeting”

As you do this, you’ll find that the thoughts quickly vanish from your consciousness as soon as you acknowledge them. During this stage, you’ll also be lying on your bed with your arm up to keep you from dozing off to sleep. By the end of these 10 days, you’ll be ready for the final stage of meditation…

Days 21-30

During the final ten days of learning how to meditate, you’ll be refining the skill of remaining in the hypnogic state and clearing your mind of any thoughts which might come into it. The only objective during these 10 days is to be in a state of complete calm in mind, body and spirit. If you find any thoughts coming into your mind, simply follow the process of acknowledging them just as you did during days 11 to 20. By the end of this 10 day period, you’ll have mastered the skill of meditation and you’ll have already begun to see the benefits of more sound sleep, lower stress levels, better concentration and more focused willpower.

So start practicing these steps today, and just 30 days from now you’ll have taught yourself the valuable skill of learning how to meditate.

Knowing how to build self confidence is something which every person alive can benefit from tremendously. Start finding ways to turn these distractions off and start getting to know what’s really going on inside your head. A great way to do this is writing down your thoughts and asking yourself what’s really important to you.

The more you do this, the more you’ll find that building self-esteem is a process of self-discovery more than it is a process of trying to become someone else. It’s also a good idea to start studying the science of how your body works, how your mind works and all of the complexities within, this will help you to develop a greater appreciation for who you are and will restore a sense of awe and wonder about yourself.

Before the movie and book were released, no one had ever heard of her. But the important thing about this movie was not the person delivering the message, but the message which was delivered by over a dozen of the most well known success coaches in the world. That message was best encapsulated in the statement made by John Asaraf: “You can have anything that you want, I don’t care how big it is.”

Shortly after that, self-made millionaire Bob Proctor introduces ‘The Secret’ as the law of attraction and stated that everything in your life is being attracted into your life as a result of the things you’re thinking about. Whether you’re thinking about what you want or what you don’t want, you’re creating your own reality by virtue of the predominating thoughts in your consciousness.

The purpose of this Review of the Secret is to help you decide for yourself whether or not purchasing and using this movie or any of these materials is worth your time and money.

The Cast and Message of “The Secret”

Probably the most credible thing about The Secret is that some of the greatest minds in personal development decided to take part in it. Among them are: Bob Proctor, author of “You We Born Rich,” Jack Canfield, author the “Chicken Soup for the Soul” books,  James Arthur Ray, Joe Vitale, John Asaraf and dozens of other people who have demonstrated the power of the law of attraction through the results in their life. All of these people claim that the same secret which has made them successful (the Law of attraction) was used by historical figures like Leonardo Davinci, Ludwig Van Beethoven, Thomas Edison, Einstein, JD Rockefeller, Dale Carnegie and many more.

As incredible as this might sound, all you have to do is study the lives and writing of these historical figures and you’ll find that all of them held one common belief: that we could manipulate the results which we attract into our lives by means of directing our thoughts towards what we want. All of them also believed that there was a connectedness in the universe which caused us to be linked to everything in existence. So by focusing your thoughts on something, you actually tune your mind and body into the same frequency and begin attracting energies which are consistent with what you’re thinking.

Obviously, the list of individuals who held this belief and the things which they accomplished in their lives makes it impossible to ignore the power of the law of attraction and the impact of our thoughts on our lives.

Something to Be Cautious of

Although the principles being taught in the movie ‘The Secret’ are valuable, they don’t tell you the whole story. They simply give you the three steps of: ask, believe and receive. Yet if you study the lives of the great achievers (living and dead), even those who believed in the Law of attraction, you’ll find that all of them have one thing in common. They all committed to the pursuit of the object of their desire with careful planning, constant persistence and a burning desire to get what they want.  I don’t see anywhere that this fits into the “ask, believe, receive” instructions which are laid out in this movie.

My guess is that the people who participated in the secret know that there’s a whole lot more to it than that, and that nothing happens unless you invest action and persistence towards achieving it. As long as you keep this in mind, I think The Secret would be a great addition to your library and would help you to keep your thoughts focused on what you want while you’re busy working your plan of action towards achieving it. You’re going to have to make changes in your diet and in your activity level. Any attempt to find a way around this and to achieve fast weight loss is going to take a toll on your body which simply isn’t worth the sacrifice. So in addition to determining your target weight, determine exactly what changes you’re going to make in order to accomplish it. This will give your subconscious mind a specific set of actions to motivate your body to take.

Step Three: Build Your Affirmations

Once you’ve determined your target weight and what you’re willing to change in order to accomplish it, it’s time to start building your weight loss affirmations. To do this, you’ll need to follow for basic principles:

1) Make them in the present tense

2) Make them in the first person

3) Make them affirmative (avoid using words like: stop, won’t, quit, lose, not, no etc.)

4) Make them action oriented

Action oriented means that your affirmations address one of your specific actions that are determined in step two. In other words:

“I’m eating more natural foods and therefore achieving my ideal weight through reconditioning my metabolism.”

“I’m achieving my ideal weight through commitment to resistance training and cardiovascular training.”

“I’m enjoying increased energy and self-confidence because of my commitment to proper nutrition and an active lifestyle.”

Notice how all of these weight loss affirmations were written in the present tense, that they all use the word “I’m”, and that all of them are affirmative and action oriented. This is how you write them. Then you put them to work…

Step Four: Daily Rehearsal

Reconditioning your subconscious mind using weight loss affirmations follows the same set of principles as reconditioning your body. As you know, you can’t go to the gym a few times and achieve permanent results. You must commit yourself to consistent activity and make it a part of your lifestyle…and most important, enjoy it. So once you have your daily weight loss affirmations written, speak them allowed once in the morning and once in the evening.

How to Use The Secret to Attracting Wealth

The following five steps were adapted from  Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich,” which is comprehensive and practical book ever written on the secret to attracting wealth:

  1. Set an exact goal

You have to know exactly how much wealth you want to accomplish the your subconscious mind is a specific goal to focus on and to build a plan of action for acquiring. For example, if your objective is to become a millionaire, set one million dollars as your exact goal, and don’t worry about how you’re going to do it…that will come later.

  1. Set a deadline for acquiring it

Setting will help you to build a sense of urgency that will prevent you from procrastinating. Any wish which does not have a deadline is in danger of becoming just that…a wish.

  1. Determine your contribution

No matter what you want out of life it’s impossible to receive for any definite amount of time without being willing to give something in return. So determine exactly what you’re willing to give in exchange for the wealth that you desire, and make sure it’s something which you’re passionate about.

  1. Create a plan and get started…ready or not

Plans give you a specific direction to focus your energy on so that you don’t get distracted by the thousands of other things which would steal your energy away from pursuing your goal. When you create your plan, just remember that it doesn’t have to be perfect at first. The most important thing is that you start taking action whether you are ready or not, understanding that success will come about as a result of learning from what’s working and what’s not working and adjusting your plan accordingly.

Write it out and “rehearse” it twice a day

This is the most important step because it’s the means by which you engage your subconscious mind and recondition yourself to automatically choose actions, thoughts and beliefs which propel you towards your goal. The act of rehearsing your goal is one of the most important steps in the secret to attracting wealth. You can do it by means of reading your plan aloud, creating a vision board, watching mind movies, creative visualization, self hypnosis or any other means of creating a vivid image of your goal  and your plan which inspires you to take consistent action towards achieving.

It’s really that simple, and the sooner you get started on this process the sooner you’ll be one of the few who has a solid understanding of the secret to attracting wealth
